Care Guide

Eveningwear from Zolaviri can combine beadwork, lace, structured bodices, and fluid skirts, and those details do not all behave the same way. Use this guide to decide what to check before wearing, how to handle a piece between events, and when to stop before a small issue becomes a larger one. The care label, packaging insert, and product page instructions for your specific item always take priority over the general guidance below.

Read the Item's Own Instructions First

Before you clean, spot-treat, or store a piece, look for its care label: check the inside side seam, the waistband, and any tag attached to the packaging. The product page may also repeat care information or note a special construction detail. If the label is missing or unreadable, do not choose a method based on the fabric name or on how a similar gown was handled. Note the item name and photograph the label so you can ask for help with the exact piece.

Labels can differ between gowns in the same collection. A beaded bodice, a lace capelet, and a fluid skirt may each need different treatment, so treat the instructions for your item as the authority rather than applying one rule to everything you own.

A Quick Check Before and After Wearing

Spend a minute on the gown before you put it on and again before you put it away. This is when small issues are easiest to catch.

  • Fasten zippers, hooks, and corset lacing before lifting or storing the piece so they do not catch on lace or beadwork.
  • Look over beadwork, fringe, lace edges, seams, and the hem for loose threads, missing beads, or new marks.
  • Let perfume, hairspray, and body lotion dry before dressing, and keep them from direct contact with embellished areas.
  • After wearing, place the gown in a ventilated space away from direct sun and heat. Do not put it away damp.

If Something Spills, Spatters, or Catches

Stop before you rub. Blot a spill with a clean, dry absorbent cloth, working from the outside of the mark inward so you do not spread it. Do not use bleach, strong solvents, hot water, or vigorous brushing on an unknown stain or an embellished area, and do not apply heat to dry it.

If the mark remains, or if it is on lace, beadwork, fringe, or a structured bodice, stop and seek product-specific advice. For a caught bead or thread, do not pull it; ease the surrounding fabric free and lay the piece flat. Pulling can enlarge a small snag.

Storing a Gown Between Events

Follow any hanger, folding, or garment-bag instructions supplied with the item. If none are given, support the bodice and avoid letting a beaded gown hang from thin straps. Close zippers and fasten closures, tuck corset lacing so it cannot tangle, and keep detachable gloves or other accessories separate from hooks and beadwork.

Store the piece away from damp, direct sunlight, and crushing weight. If you use a garment bag, choose one that allows air to move rather than sealing the gown in a closed plastic bag. Check stored pieces occasionally for moisture, musty odors, or new snags.

Details That Need Their Own Handling

Beadwork, Sequins, and Fringe

Inspect these areas before and after each wearing. Keep them away from sharp jewelry, zipper teeth, and rough surfaces. If a strand of fringe or a bead catches, free it slowly rather than pulling; if a section is loose, set the gown aside for professional assessment.

Lace, Sheer Overlays, and Capelets

Lace and sheer panels can snag at the collar, keyhole, capelet edge, and underarm. Check these points for pulled threads and keep rough accessories away. Do not cut a loose thread without advice, because it may be part of the lace structure.

Corset Lacing, Zippers, and Gloves

Release tension on corset lacing when the gown is not being worn, and open concealed zippers fully before dressing so the fabric is not forced. Store matching detachable gloves flat and separate from the gown's hardware.

When to Stop and Ask a Professional

Involve a qualified professional cleaner or restorer if a stain does not lift after blotting, if color transfers, if beads or lace are damaged, or if the bodice structure feels compromised. Choose someone with experience in embellished eveningwear, and share the care label and construction details before work begins.
